Leon's beautiful FE

Leon writes:

Originally purchased from O'Leary's garage at Peak Hill NSW by the Dietrich family and later sold to the Goodsel family at Trundle. With only 34.000 miles on the clock the car spent all of its life in the country. The car had an all over surface rust, faded and cracked upholstery but the car was all complete.

I set out to fully restore the car to its former glory.

Leon's FE on display at the 12th Nationals, Mt Gambier

I completely dismantled and restored virtually every part of the car. All the pieces that needed to be cad plated, zinc plated, chrome plated I had done. I re-sprayed the car to its original two tone green colors. I sourced the green Westminster Carpet from England.

The original upholstery I sourced from USA. I had the upholstery re done by on old upholster. Also from the USA I located the original bumper bar rivets.

I spent every available spare moment of 2 years and 7 months completing the restoration on my own. I am no spray painter or mechanic by trade. I have a great love for the old car and I developed a connection that keep me going even when at times things seemed impossible.

I was encouraged in September 2007 by my club to enter my car into The Shannon's Eastern Creek Concourse event. Where to my astonishment I won 1st place in the 1951-1960 category, I also won Grand Champion of the event, and more recently at the Orange Nationals event where my car took out Grand Champion for Stock/Original.
